It’s always important to remember that developing good habits today can pave the way to a heart-healthy future.  Research shows that periodontitis, or gum disease, and its resulting inflammation almost doubles the risk for heart disease.  What’s heartbreaking is that gum disease is highly preventable.

A recent study revealed that common oral ailments including gum disease, missing teeth, and simple cavities, are as good at predicting heart disease as measuring cholesterol levels.

And, what’s more, those with higher levels of a certain oral bacteria are more likely to have atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, which can cause heart attach or stroke.

What can you do? Show your mouth and gums some love!

1. Brush twice daily and floss every day

2. Use an antibacterial mouthwash and chew sugar-free gum to stimulate cleansing saliva flow while on the go

3. Visit us for regular checkups and cleanings (twice a year is recommended).

Thorough brushing, daily flossing and having regular checkups could actually help save your life.
